Microsoft SMTP Change – What It Means and What we are doing about it…
From December 2026, Microsoft will be turning off Basic Authentication for SMTP AUTH in Exchange Online. This update could affect scan-to-email functions that depend on older login methods, especially within Office 365 / Microsoft 365 environments.
For many organisations, this means that multifunction printers (MFPs) and scanners may suddenly be unable to send scanned documents via email unless action is taken.
Why It’s Important
If your MFP or scanner is currently configured to send documents using only a username and password, it may stop working once the Microsoft change comes into effect.
